I had a fun day taking Ryan treats and gifts at the clinic.
We planned a dinner night after going to his brother's kids basketball game. My sister, Gina, who has been here since January said she would watch the kids. Around 5:30 Ry was still at the clinic and called to let me know our sister-in-law was at her kids ball game, but sick in the car. At 6pm I got another call saying she needed to come to our house to rest because she was fainting. So Ry and I drove out to Barnwell about 7 minutes away, and after talking to her he decided she needed to go to the ER. I hung out with her for awhile, but then Ryan was going crazy because he was missing the championship game. They went into over time and during the break the school principle announced that some kids had busted out a couple car windows out with a baseball bat. It wasn't ours so we just kept watching the game. Right after we ran out without talking to his brother and noticed the truck window right next to us was broken. As we did we saw a car speeding past the school that fit the description of the kids. They were going through this small town over 50 mph and running stop signs onto the highway. So what do you think Ryan did? Yep! He chased them down! He did catch them really fast and started flashing his lights at them. Okay-so are any of you thinking what I am thinking? If they do have a bat and stopped it probably wouldn't be a nice encounter! Or what if they were high, drinking, or had a gun? Of course this is little Taber in Canada where it is very difficult to get a gun BUT I wasn't excited about the idea. Anyway, they turned off on a gravel road, but we were able to get their plate number and called the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mountain Police) for them to come out. We were heading back on the highway when we saw them speeding back toward us with another truck chasing them. At the same time the police car started flashing its lights and the car turned off on a dirt road that is parallel to the highway. (I know it is difficult to visualize, but try to follow me). So they were coming toward us and we started to flash our lights at them again, and they turned around towards the cop and turned off their lights. We saw that the cop wasn't seeing them and almost came back on our road, but we were linked to them through 911 and told them to head back on the dirt road. This was really fun! So two cop cars finally got out, down the right road, and I am thinking "okay, they have them let's stay out of their way", but NO! Ryan stayed right behind the police car! They got to the car and the kids had jumped out and ran through a field. Too bad for them that the one cop is a coyote tracker and it only took him a bit to find them hiding under some farm equiptment! It was hilarious! I shouldn't say this, but they were pretty dumb. They handcuffed them and took them into the station. Come to find out they were 17, 19, and 20 year old Mexican Mennonite (mennonites who used to live here that moved to Mexico and now are back in Canada) boys just out for some fun. They had left the bat in their car, so they didn't try to get out of the charges. Pretty fun for a Valentines night!
After we left the scene we went to check on Tami at the ER. She was better, but didn't end up going on a flight to New Orleans the next day. She just needed some fluids and antibiotics. We hadn't eaten supper so at 9:30 we went out to Tim Horton's (very romantic), and then to the police station to give them a report on the incident. We made it home just before midnight.
