Final by March 5, 2009!
We are having fun in all of this snow!
Ryan took us out to our pond and pulled the kids in the sled with the quad.
A bit cold, but the kids really enjoyed it. (I wasn't very excited
about taking the kids out on the ice, but it was thick enough).
The kids and I have been playing out on the huge piles of snow
in the church parking lot next to us. They like to pretend to look
for "dinosaur bones" and "gold" (the idea is from the
"Backyardigans" movie they like to watch).
Oh, I must share Colby's latest "I hurt myself" story.
It is a bit lengthy so I apologize in advance!
Last week I was supposed to help decorate for an adult dance at our
Stake center. The morning of I totally forgot until someone from the
ward called me to go in place of them. So I hurried the kids out to
the van, but it wouldn't start (not a new problem...but another story),
anyway! It wasn't too cold (-6) so I bundled everyone up and put Colby
and Brooklyn in the stroller-that was interesting going through some of the
piles of snow! HA! But we made it the two blocks in about 25 minutes. By
the time we arrived all the doors were locked and obviously they were
finished decorating. So we decided to walk around the church and play
some more in the snow. We watched a guy come through the parking lot
with his big tractor to scrape away the snow, but then I was tired of
being outside. I started walking all the kids to the parked stroller, but
Colby came behind slowly. I couldn't see him, but wasn't to worried until
I heard him cry. As I went toward him he was holding his hands up
to his face and saying, "Mommy, I hurt myself". When I picked him up
I realized he was bleeding like crazy from his mouth. I started asking,
"Did you fall down"? "What happened"? He just kept saying he hurt himself.
Then the awful thought came to my mind,
"DID YOU LICK SOMETHING"?
"Yes", he cried!
AAH! No way. When I got him calmed down enough to
put pressure on his mouth with Brook's scarf I noticed he had two chunks
out of his bottom lip as well. Poor kid! Brayden called Ryan at work, but he
said the only thing to do would be to stop the bleeding. Do you know how much
blood comes out of tongues and lips?!! Both of us were covered with frozen blood!
( I must admit I had to check out the pole he was stuck to and it had a nice little
bloody mouth outlined and frozen blood drips...not pretty)!
By the time we got home he said,
"Mom, my tongue is okay"!
I love my Colby!
I am so glad he was okay. The lesson I learned from
this incident was interesting. I started wondering why I didn't have that
impression that I usually feel when something is going wrong. Why didn't
I feel like running to him? When I prayed about it I was enlightened with
the fact that there are going to be many things in life that my kids
go through that will be painful. Things that I can't prevent, but that they will
learn important lessons from. Colby wasn't mad at me, and he knew I was close
to comfort him. I knew he had to deal with this little problem "alone".
BUT I also learned to keep a closer eye on my kids!
What else...Brooklyn tripped while we were piling her "dinosaur bones" on our trailer
in the front yard the other. She smacked the edge and luckily missed her eye by
about a centimeter. She has quite the black eye today. Ryan said she looks like she
has some nasty eye color on! She wasn't sad about her eye though! She was
mad that Tyson was heading toward her dinosaur bones!
My Brooky and Colby are not longer in Nursery! They are now in Primary
with Tyson and Brayden. Can you believe that? They were
so proud to sit on the front row Sunday with their little, "I AM A CHILD OF GOD"
crowns on. I am so happy that my calling keeps me in the primary with my kids-I
am sure they do that on purpose since my kids have a little more energy than most
other children... Unfortunately, I was teaching the 8/9 years-olds when they
"disappeared"
to go to the washroom...
Okay, I will stop. But FYI Brayden is really enjoying reading now. I don't know
why, but he has really picked up over the holidays! And Tyson has decided that
coloring makes pictures look nice when you take your time!
