Ode to Blackey

Never say NEVER!

I have NEVER enjoyed animals ever since I was a child. I NEVER wanted to have a pet and I am not sure why. Is it the hair? The smell? The dirty feet from coming from outside? Is it the climbing all over my furniture? I don't know exactly WHAT it is, but I have to say that I will NEVER (HA) say NEVER again!

Moving into our home on our little "farm" has brought four ecstatic little children FOUR cats! Oh, they started out as kittens so cute and all that stuff (one white, one black, one orange, and one striped). But the kids didn't believe me when I said they are OUTSIDE cats. I am not bitter, and I have to admit that on occasion I do spend some time with the little critters. Like when they sneak in my garage after I drive in and the door is halfway down. I take the time to scoot them out. Or when my children do bring them in I take the time to count to 10 before I threaten to get rid of them. Oh, we have four cats! And guess what?! Three are males and one female! Oh yes!

So what did I do this week? You betcha! I took dear miss Blackey to see the vet! And the vet almost made me pass out when she said, "She might already have babies..." AAH! I don't want to be a murderer! No way, please oh please no! Lucky for me my prayers were answered and she was not with and now cannot have babies. I just can't do 100 cats in five years! The poor kids think I am a mean Mom, but it is better than just dropping them off for the coyotes to snack on....

Do you want to know the worst of it. I feel bad for Blackey. She is uncomfortable and just wants to be held. So at 6 am where was I? Down in my basement bathroom reading my scriptures with Blackey. Sigh! The guilt has overcome me and I want her to not be angry with me. She purrs and purrs and I, unfortunately, don't mind her company. BUT I am not going to say that she is NEVER going to be an inside cat. I am only going to say she is STILL a barn cat with those other boys!
