Bonding in unusual ways!

Whitey(Brooklyn's cat) and I were hooked!

Really, Monday was an interesting night.
Early in the morning I noticed the cats were missing, but that's not uncommon because they go hunting. (They are too good at mouse catching and there isn't enough around the house to keep them happy anymore.) Then in the evening it was odd they hadn't showed up and I figured they must be locked in the lower garage.  As they were scampering out I saw that Whitey had something hanging out of his mouth.  As I got closer I realized he had a fish hook in his upper lip. Nice! I worked on it a bit with the kids, but the wire cutters wouldn't cut through it.  When Ryan came home to help Brayden and I we had no idea what we were up for.  We had the cat loosely wrapped in a towl. The first time Ryan tried to clip the hook it twisted and scared Whitey so he jumped out of Brayden's arms and I was really smart and grabbed at the cat...who was covered by the towel and then
I felt...
a sharp pain in my right ring finger tip...

Oops!

The fish hook caught me, too!

I wish we would have had a camera or at least just taken the time to get it!
The hook was all the way through the cat's lip and my finger.  I was bleeding all over the cat.  Ryan was sick!  (I on the other hand held myself together rather well.  It didn't hurt anymore because I was so lost as to how we were going to get out of this predicament).  I laughed, Ryan looked on in utter loss of words except, "ah, T", Brooklyn cried, She said after, "do you know why I was crying.  I was sad for Whitey and ...for you"). Tyson and Colby weren't sticking around for the show.  Brayden said a quick prayer that the cat would be calm so he wouldn't pull the hook all the way through my finger and that we would be able to think clearly.  We briefly discussed going to the hospital, but that wouldn't have been good to have an animal there.  The vet was considered, but Ryan thought they wouldn't want to come out after hours.  I said I could just pull the hook all the way through my finger...but Ryan refused.  We studied it for a bit and decided that since the barb was all the way through my finger Ryan could flatten it and I would be able to pull the hook back through.  We were really worried about the cat struggling and Brayden freaking out, but the cat could tell we were trying to help and I told Brayden he had to be brave to keep me safe.

I have no doubt that little prayer was a huge help!

Brayden wrapped two towels around Whitney and held him tight on his lap while I held the cat's head still with my free hand.  Ryan was able to work quickly and within a few seconds he flatted the barb and I pulled my finger out. Brooklyn brought me a band aid because I was bleeding all over her cat and she does love me! Once I had both hands I could steady the cat a bit more and with only a couple meows Ryan bent the hook back and forth until it broke apart and we were able to back it out of Whitey's lip.
The poor thing had a lip piercing!
He was so sweet to me though.
He wanted me to hold him
and now
he purrs more around me than anyone...

Yippee, right!?
