I laugh and shake my head whenever I think about this so I must share.
I went to Women's Conference at the end of April (great fun and I love my husband
oodles for taking the kids for me-kinda, but that's another story.) HA!
Anyway, on the drive home we stopped in Brigham City to gas up and I put mycard in to start the pump and it asked for my zip code. I went inside and the lady saidthat was fine she would just start the pump for me then I could pay inside. Well, when I came in to pay my card wouldn't swipe (which it doesn't all the time). She typed in the numbers and it again asked for a zip code.
I told her we don't have zip codes in Canada we have postal codes.
She started getting panicky and I was being really patient (thinking, "really, just bypass it").
Then she said, "oh, put in your postal code without the letters...hi?! And then she starts looking at my card funny and says (like she just discovered the "PROBLEM"),
"Oh, is this one of THOSE Canadian cards? I don't think they work here".
I didn't know whether to laugh or not, but she was serious! I said kindly, "It's a VISA".
I was dying inside! Seriously, ready to crack up.
She says to the other attendant, "Do you know if we use these kinds of Canadian cards"?
Finally, the other attendant grabs the card, swipes it quickly back and forth a few times and it flashes, "APPROVED".
Hmmm.
I laughed...
a really good laugh
once I got in the car!
I am sorry to say that I'm not through yet....my friends and I must have had a sign on our foreheads that said, "We use CANADIAN cards" because this happened again!
In Great Falls we decided to stop at Taco Johns. My friend Angie asked them if they took Canadian cash and this lady said no (which isn't surprising because no one in the states will take Canadian cash. Not that I think they should, we just take US cash in Canada all the time so we thought we would try. No hard feelings-really). So she goes to pay with her Master Card and the lady says, "Um, is that a Canadian card? Those won't work here." I was behind my friend and thought I was hearing things! I did laugh-out loud! With my friend Sarah beside me! Angie said (because she wasn't being rude like me), "Oh, it should work. Just try it." And the cashier turns to a boy behind her and showed him the card, "Do we take these Canadian cards here?" and he said NO! I said, "Just try it and I'll pay cash if it doesn't. She swiped it and it immediately, but REALLY NOT SURPRISINGLY said, "APPROVED".
The cashier on the other had was quite surprised.
What can I say more?
I just shake my head...and chuckle....
and tell my story to as many people as I can!
It makes for a good laugh and I hope that those who gave me the opportunity to laugh will know that I just needed to laugh!
